8 Tips For Healthy Make-Up And Skincare

Healthy Make-up and skincare’ are generally regarded as women’s forte.

Treating healthy make-up and skincare as different topics wouldn’t make sense; after all, you will get the best results using makeup only if your skin is healthy.

So how do you combine the use of make-up and skin care, together? How do they complement each other?

In this article, we will look at 8 make-up and skincare routines and tips to help you along and keep your skin healthy and glowing.

Tip #1 – Keep Healthy Make-up and Skincare on Your Mind!

Always have healthy make-up and skincare on your mind, whether you are buying products for make-up or actually applying them onto your skin after you have bought them.

So what you are buying is a ‘healthy make-up and skincare’ product, not just a make-up product.

Check the ingredients to see if it contains ingredients that you might be allergic to.

Also, check if it contains high concentration chemicals that can harm your skin.

Tip #2 – Testers, Testers, Testers

Healthy Make-up and skincare are also about testing the products before using them.

So, apply the makeup on a small patch of skin e.g. the inside of your elbow,  and check how your skin reacts to it.

8 Tips For Healthy Make-Up And Skin Care

Why the ‘inside’ of your elbow?  The skin on that part of your arm is as sensitive as your face and so should you have a disagreeable reaction to any skincare or make-up product, it will be easier to rinse off and treat rather than your face.

Also, should the allergic reaction be inflammatory, you will be better able to handle it on your arm rather than your face!

Tip #3 – Watch Your Expiry Dates!

No, we are not talking about the dates you had with your ex!

We are talking about the importance of expiry dates on the skincare products you purchase.

Healthy Make-Up And Skincare - expiry date

Keep track of expiry date on your make up products too and never use them beyond the expiry date. In fact, some products (e.g. vitamin C based products), if not stored properly, get spoilt much earlier than the expiry date.

Tip #4 – Hygiene & Cleanliness

Cleanliness is an important part of healthy make-up and skincare routine.

Make sure you sharpen your eye-liners regularly and keep all your makeup equipment (brushes, applicators, etc.) clean at all times.

*Pro Tip* You might want to fix a date, each month, for the overhauling of your equipment.

As part of cleanliness, your healthy make-up and skincare routine should also include keeping your hair & nails treated and clean at all times.

Tip #5 – Healthy Make-Up and Skincare Include Nail Care

Nail care is another important aspect of healthy make-up and skincare lifestyle.

And no it doesn’t mean that if you are a man you need to rush and get a manicure!

Healthy Make-Up And Skincare - hands

Keep your nails well-trimmed and make sure that should you have a little growth, clean the under nail area with an old toothbrush and some regular soap, with warm water – simple, effective and hygienic!

Should you be a lady with long lustrous natural nails, make sure you use a good quality nail polish and always keep your nails clean.

Once you are done with cleaning and polishing your nails, you should rub in cuticle oil at the edges of the nail.

Tip #6 – Dealing With Skin Care Problems

If you have a skin disorder e.g. acne, you should not apply heavy or chemical based makeup.

Consult your dermatologist if you are unsure about the make-up products that you can use while you have acne or other skin disorder.

Another major influencer on your skin is what you put inside your body, what you eat, what you drink and what you inhale!

So if you are a smoker who eats junk food and drinks soft drinks or alcohol on a regular basis, expect your skin to reflect that!

*Note – Never – ever – try to squeeze pimples/ acne, especially when wearing make-up! And remember that makeup and skincare should not conflict with each other.

Tip #7 – Keep Your Face Clean

Cleansing your face every day before and after applying make-up and skincare is ESSENTIAL!

You can use a make-up remover for the heavier parts, such as eyeliners, mascara, and lipstick. Use a mild make-up remover for foundation, concealers, and contours.

Always rinse your face with luke-warm water – not cold and not hot, as bot extremes damage your skin pores and capillaries.

The Golden Rule of skincare is “Never Ever Sleep With Your Make Up On

Tip #8 – Body Odors – Deodorants

We all use some form of deodorant, whether sprays or roll-ons or creams, they play an important part in our daily routine.

Personally, I go for the organic, natural, aluminum-free deodorant. In fact, I am using now CBD Oil as my natural deodorant! Yes…Oil! It sounds weird, but it really works!

As for other forms of “deo’s” while applying a spray deodorant, make sure that you maintain the recommended distance between the nozzle and your skin (as mentioned on the deodorant pack).

There is a good reason for this – and it has to do with protecting your skin (as much as possible) from some of the harmful chemicals that are present in the spray can!

*Note – Deodorant sprays are designed for your armpits – please do not spray it in any other intimate parts of your body….need I explain why?

My Conclusion

So, the thought of healthy make-up and skincare should always go hand in hand.

Do not try to treat make up and skincare differently, as you will be open to adverse effects!

Be gentle with yourself, and most importantly listen to your body, listen to your skin, they know what is good for them and what feels right!

  1. Oh my god, I just checked the expiration dates on some of my products and I almost wish that I hadn’t. I feel like mascara is always the worst offender because for me it isn’t possible to use one up in a few months so I will inevitably keep it wayyyy longer than I should. And this is the one product that I shouldn’t mess around with as it’s right on my eyes!
Thank you for this post 😅
