The Beauty of Body Care
When you think of you body and its care do you think of the beauty of body care? Have you ever given it a thought?
Many of us become somewhat aware of caring for our bodies from the inside. Taking care of what we eat and drink in order to keep the best of health…and then some of us don’t.
But caring for the exterior of our body seems to elude some of us. It simply not something that we think about. And when I am saying we don’t think about, I mean we often forget the biggest organ we have which is our skin! It is the one organ that embodies (literally) our whole being! Its what you’d call “what keeps us together” =)
So why do we often forget it? Why do we ignore its needs? Why do we wait until we have an itch, a rash or some other ailment to “remember” it? These are good questions that each of us will need to answer in our hearts.
Here I would like to give you some advice as to how to care for you body’s skin, and no, not you face, that is in other posts on this site. But the rest of you body. For example:
- Do you moisturize you body everday?
- Do you moisturize you legs after shaving, waxing, lasering?
- Do you care for you elbows and knees?
- Are you aware of you neckline..lines?
How many of these questions did you answer yes to? All of them? Well then read no further, you are taking care of yourself really well and there is not need to bother you with anything else, except to possibly point you to some of the great body care products I have reviewed here.
For those of you who have raised an eyebrow, thinking…”what? What do you mean my elbows and knees? they are perfectly fine last time I looked at them…20 years ago!”…well ladies, that is a problem! =) 20 years ago you may have been in you 20s and you body’s collagen was still having a great time in you system…but since then things have changed (as you may have noticed) and those areas need to TLC!
The skin on elbows and knees become more “tired” over the years and can dry out to look like scaly “dinosaurs” skin (well that’s what it looks like to me… you may have different description) Keeping the skin on these areas well moisturized helps to reduce the dryness of course and leaves a supple feeling, which sometimes when very dry and stretched can cause an itchy uncomfortable feeling.
Body Scrubs
Body scrubs, like gentle salt scrubs, apricot seed scrubs and coconut scrubs, to name a few, help prepare you skin to “receive” or “accept” the body lotion, thus giving it more absorption and better retainment of the moisture applied.
You need to try, and test which body scrub would suit you best, there are scrubs that are “rougher” on you skin and some others that are “gentler” and thin, which some of you may find non-effective! It really is very individual. In my “body scrubs” section you will find many options, I think you will like =)
Body Lotions
Body lotions are as varied as they come! There are many brands on the market, each vying to provide you with the ultimate experience! And a lot of them do. In my body lotion section you will find a variety of the best body lotions for the best (most decent) price. Sometimes you need to pay a little extra for the excellent quality offered, and sometimes you don’t! Of course, it also depends on you likes and dislikes. I try to cover the most effective ones I KNOW that work, from my personal experience (and taste of course)!
Body Skin Care Procedures
There are various skin care procedures out on the market nowadays which enables us to really treat ourselves to many improvements. I am not talking about surgical procedures, which is another field all together. I am talking about the various treatments such as laser hair removals, Botox, laser skin rejunevation and more. The subject is so vast, really.
Waxing
Waxing is a very popular and economical hair removal procedure that leaves you skin soft though (in my experience) not as smooth as shaving. The great thing about waxing is that it lasts for about 3-4 weeks, depending on you hair growth rate, and it is arguably inexpensive. The less great thing is that you need to repeat for a long period of time before hair density becomes negligible for waxing. Also, you need to wait for some regrowth to show otherwise there is nothing for the wax to “catch on to”. So you may have to walk around with “prickly” & “hairy” legs for a few days, so you need to check you level of comfort with that.
There are two types of waxing procedures, hot wax and cold wax. Hot wax is by far more effective as it opens the follicles and so enables smooth and less painful hair removal. But you need to be careful that the wax is not too hot, or you may cause yourself burn damage! Cold wax is safer on the scalding point but is less effective on the tiny small hairs that are still hiding there, as it does not open the follicles like the hot wax does. Your point to ponder.
Botox
Botox is a very popular procedure nowadays with celebrities and wealthy people. Well maybe now also available to some of us on a better budget. The great thing about Botox is that it is a non-surgical way to a face lift as you inject Botulinum Toxin (which is a poison by the way, but on that later) into the facial muscles just under the skin and this causes relaxation of the muscles and give a smooth result on the skin. It is usually used on the upper third of the face and treatment can last up to three or four months. Then you need it again.
Botulinum toxin is generally considered safe, but there can be serious side effects. Most common, it can be injected into the wrong muscle group or spread from the injection site, causing paralysis of unintended muscles! So you really need to choose you doctor well.
But it is worth noting that Botox can be used for a wide variety of conditions, such as migraines, excessive sweating, and psoriasis!
Usually Botox treatments are given in groups, because once the product is prepared in a serynge it needs to be used up within the hour or so, otherwise it becomes ineffective. That is why “Botox Parties” became so popular – to save on the cost!
Laser Skin Treatments
There are a variety of skin treatments that are done nowadays with Laser. It’s quite amazing what more can be done with this 1970s Darth Vader light! =)
Among the Laser treatments available you have:
- Laser Skin Resurfacing
- Laser Body Contouring
- Laser Cellulite Treatment
- Laser Skin Tightening
- Laser Hair Removal
And each of these has its own laser “beam” approximation to meet the need of the treatment. You may want to click on each respective treatment for more details.
My Conclusion
All in all, as you can see you have many avenues from which to choose from to treat yourself and you body to the very best of care. The key is to be informed and aware and feel you body, know what it needs. Not all procedures suite everyone and you need to be in tune with yourself so to know what would best suite you.
I hope this post helped you in forming some opinion of you own and I would love to hear you views, or questions in the form below.
